Explanation of the new Avalon Artifacts feature in King of Avalon.
This covers my understanding of the Avalon Artificats. I think I understand the basics, but still not have knowledge of everything, as always additional information is appreciated.
Via the new statue in the middle of the city you can acquire extra combat boosts. To get these boosts there is a two step process, first you need to Activate a Tome (with Holy Dust) and with an activated Tome you can Craft an Artifact (requiring Lake Gravel and for higher level also Enchanted Mist).
The setup of the Artifacts are very similar to the Prestige Statues. There are 5 grades which can be refined to a higher level the higher the grade is. Each grade consists of 4 types. There is one that has Troop Attack, Health, Defense benefits, one that gives infantry attack/defense/health, one that gives cavalry attack/defense/health and one that gives bowmen attack/defense/health. The total boosts provided at the highest level are 80% for the troop specific boosts and 22.86% for the Troop Attack/Defense/Health boosts.
The Artifacts are placed in 8 slots, two of each type. Note that you only need to Activate one Tome of each type with which you can Craft Artifacts for both corresponding slots.
There are three items, Holy Dust, Lake Gravel and Enchanted Mist. Holy Dust is required to Activate a Tome, Lake Gravel and Enchanted Mist to Craft an Artifact. Enchanted Mist is not required for Green and Blue, it is for Purple, and I assume also higher and for upgrading Purple to higher level.
The Demonic Siege event used to be a great source for these ingredients, but since update 5.1 the rewards in Demonic Siege are focused on lord gear instead.
There is a Lucky Shot field with mostly Lake Gravel and Enchanted Mist as rewards. Some also contain Holy Dust.
When you reach top 100 on the ranking for the Dragon Spirit Arena event you can select 1000 Lake Gravel or 200 Enchanted Mist as possible rewards. Actually this is for rank 51-100, higher allows you to select even more.
In the Goods Exchange there is a new section to request Lake Gravel and Enchanted Mist.
In the Spire Loot you can buy daily Holy Dust (4) and Small Artifact Materials Chests (13). These chests contain either Lake Gravel or Enchanted Mist.
For activating a green, blue or purple Tome you need 5, 25, or 100 Holy Dust respectively.
To craft a green artifact you need 100 Lake Gravel, to craft a blue artifact you need 600 Lake Gravel, to craft a purple artifacts you need 1500 Lake Gravel and 200 Enchanted Mist.
Artifacts are already at their maxed level when crafted, they cannot be further enhanced, but from purple onwards they can be upgraded to the next grade.
Enhancing a purple to orange artifact requires 1000 Lake Gravel and 300 Enchanted Mist.
Enhancing an orange to gold artifact requires 2500 Lake Gravel and 1000 Enchanted Mist.
Although the type of boost setup is very similar to the ones from Prestige Statues, the amounts are quite different. The maximum boosts you can get are only slightly different (e.g. 160% Bowmen Attack from Artifacts vs 140% Bowmen Attack from Prestige Statues); the big difference is how the lower grade boosts compare to the higher grade boosts. With a complete set of green prestige statues the troop type specific boosts are 14%, and the Troop Attack/Defense/Health boosts 4%, while having 8 green Artifacts will give you 70% troop type specific boosts and 20% Troop Attack/Defense/Health.
As above analysis points out, the difference between the most basic Artifacts and the best Artifacts is quite small, this makes it very attractive to first work on a full set of green Artifacts, and only afterwards start focusing on higher grade Artifacts. Note that you can dismantle Artifacts for Materials, which means you don't lose much by first going for lower level ones (although I don't think there is a way to get the items used to activate a tome back).
This feature is unlocked at Stronghold 17 and the slots to attach the artifacts are unlocked on Stronghold levels 17 to 23.
Initially I found this feature a bit complicated, because of the two steps involved of getting the boosts, but that is quite clear now. Unfortunately the easy way to get lots of ingredients (from Demonic Siege) was changed, and now it is more difficult for low/non spenders to profit from this feature.
